Middelburg | 17 July – Renowned mining company Zizwe continues to thrive by prioritising the establishment of strong partnerships with reputable clients involved in sustainable commodity extraction within its operational areas. With a focus on fostering long-term relationships with esteemed industry leaders, Zizwe contributes to the mining of essential resources such as platinum, coal and chrome. The extension of numerous existing contracts attests to the dedication and expertise of its operational and plant teams, who have diligently pursued these opportunities following the principles of the "Zizwe approach”.

Moreover, the company is delighted to announce the acquisition of new contracts with major players in the industry, which highlights the commitment and hard work of its team in cultivating valuable relationships and seizing growth prospects.

The current outlook for all commodities and regions in which it operates paints a robust picture, with numerous opportunities within the mining sector reflecting the overall health of the industry.

The Mining Indaba, held earlier this year, placed significant emphasis on global sustainability. Of particular focus was Eskom, which is currently facing operational challenges. Acknowledging the need for new power sources and recognising South Africa's challenging position with dwindling investor interest, Zizwe reiterates the statement made by Minister Gwede Mantashe that "coal is phasing down, not phasing out" in South Africa. Zizwe remains committed to responsibly mining coal in accordance with government guidelines.

The company continues to actively explore mining opportunities in Africa, with a keen interest in Namibia and Botswana as its preferred territories.

“We are pleased to announce the finalisation of the budget for 2023 and 2024, indicating a promising future for Zizwe. However, we must remain vigilant and avoid complacency, always acting in the best interests of the company. This commitment ensures a sustainable future for all stakeholders,” it states.

In addition to Zizwe's ongoing commitment to contribute to the South African economy through uplifting rural communities, it launched the YES4YOUTH initiative earlier this year. This programme aims to provide work experience and skills-building opportunities, fostering the development of human capital, particularly among the youth in Zizwe Opencast Mining’s operational areas and host communities.

Parallel to the YES4YOUTH initiative, Zizwe initiated its accountability in the workplace training in April. The training has been successful, with employees embracing these values in their daily operations. By practicing accountability, employees take ownership of their roles and responsibilities, contributing to the growth of the business while avoiding negligence or misconduct. Zizwe acknowledges that accountability is a shared responsibility, with employees being accountable for specific tasks while employers are accountable for guiding and directing the team.

These initiatives reflect Zizwe's commitment to nurturing talent, empowering the youth, and fostering a culture of accountability. By investing in human capital development and instilling a sense of responsibility, Zizwe aims to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for all stakeholders.

Zizwe’s management team boasts over 150 years of experience in the mining industry. The company specialises in bulk earthworks, bulk materials handling, drilling, blasting, opencast mining, crushing, screening and rehabilitation. It provides services to major players in the South African mining industry, including blue-chip companies and selected junior mining companies.
